My review of Bethesda’s E3 2019 showing.
Well now that E3 has come and gone it’s time to get down to the nitty gritty and give each of the main conferences an overall rating. So let’s talk Bethesda.

Going into this conference I wasn’t expecting much, with good reason too considering that before E3 even began Todd Howard announced that there would be nothing shown for StarField, and Elder Scrolls 6 arguably the two most anticipated titles coming from the Publisher so this conference was actually not much of a disappointment but it was still a less than stellar conference. Let’s take a look at why.
Fallout 76

Now I’m the first to admit that I’m not a “fan” of the Fallout series. I attempted to play 3 couldn’t get into it. New Vegas I liked a little bit more but I never finished the game. Fallout 4 I bought and played about 50% of but other titles that launched that year pulled my attention away and well I never went back. However when Fallout 76 was announced I was definitely excited. My excitement was due mostly to the setting of the game (I’m from West Virginia and have lived almost my entire life there.) So of course seeing my home state being used as the setting for a video game for the first time ever was pretty freaking awesome for me. So of course when the game launched and was basically an empty void of a world I was upset to say the least. Of course I wasn’t the only upset one majority of the Fallout fan base was also pretty upset with how the game turned out.
So of course this E3 I expected Bethesda to come out apologize to the fans and show that the problems and concerns of the fan base were being heard. Fortunately that’s exactly what they did, when they announced the Wastelanders DLC. With this new DLC Fallout 76 would get what the game was missing since launch new missions, dialogue trees and finally actual NPCs. This is great news for anyone who is currently still playing FO76 or those who purchased the game and have left it behind. The weird part however was the second big announcement for Fallout 76 a battle royale mode. To me this is completely unnecessary for this game. I don’t know anyone who was going you know what Fallout is missing Battle Royale. This is one addition that to me doesn’t need to be made.

Ghostwire Tokyo
Shinji Mikami the studio head of Tango Gameworks came out on stage to announce their new game Ghostwire Tokyo. They showed a cinematic trailer that featured people vanishing into thin air, a samurai type character and ghosts. To be honest I have no clue what this game is but knowing Tango it could be a sleeper hit like the Evil Within series the studio is known for. However this announcement misses the point for me because we have no idea what it even is.

Deathloop

The new title coming from Dishonored developer Arkane Studios was revealed. The trailer that was shown off showed 2 characters trapped in a time loop where one had to kill the other. Imagine Groundhogs Day and an action movie mixed together. Honestly this game seems really cool and I cant wait for more info.
DOOM Eternal

This is basically the only thing I cared about going into Bethesda’s conference. I’m a huge DOOM fan dating back to my childhood. The reboot of the series Doom (2016) was an amazing FPS that blended old school and new school together in an over the top gore fest of a shooter. Fortunately for us it seems as if the sequel is more of what that title brought to the table. They showed off new gameplay footage showing that the Doom slayer now has the ability to air dash (which doesn’t sound doom but when shown looks like a great addition.) They also showed off a new multiplayer mode. Battle mode in this one player plays as a fully equipped Doom Slayer against 2 other players as demons. Honestly the multiplayer has never been what Doom has been about for me but I will definitely be giving this a try.
Overall this conference was not bad but not overly great either. It hit the spots that we all expected but had no frills or surprises. If I had to give Bethesda a score it would be a solid C.
What did you think about Bethesda’s conference? Are you excited about DOOM as much as I am? Let me know by leaving a comment below!
